Nestled in the heart of Melbourne’s bustling Collins Street, the Block Arcade stands as a testament to the city’s rich history and enduring elegance. Since its completion in 1893, this architectural marvel has captivated visitors with its ornate Victorian design and distinctive features.
The story of the Block Arcade begins in the late 19th century, during Melbourne’s economic boom fuelled by the Gold Rush. Inspired by Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, architect David C. Askew designed the arcade to be a symbol of the city’s newfound wealth and sophistication.
